The 2023 Provincial Disability Games was hosted successfully in various venues around Durban on Saturday, 11 November.
The programme enables persons with disabilities to participate in competitive sporting activities.
It emanated from a disability summit that was hosted by the Department whereby the sector advocated for their full integration into the sport, arts and culture programmes.
Teams from all 11 KwaZulu-Natal districts competed in the following codes: athletics (Kings Park Athletics Stadium), umlabalaba (Cato Manor), chess (Chesterville Hall), football (Hoy Park), netball (Hoy Park), table tennis (Chsterville Extension), wheelchair basketball (KwaMashu Indoor Sport Centre) and Goal Ball (Wiggins Community Hall).
The games ended on a high note with a colourful closing ceremony and announcement of the results at the Coastlands Hotel Conference Centre in the evening.
The top-class entertainment at the ceremony was provided by household name performers from the disability sector.
The Department acknowledged a marked improvement in the games from the previous event.
