On Saturday, 08 February 2025, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in partnership with the Department of Education took a great initiative to promote Under 12 Girls Football League Festival aimed at developing young girls football skills. Taking place at UGU Sport & Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe, the under 12 Girls Football Festival was a fantastic success, bringing together 14 schools from Ray Nkoyeni and Umuziwabantu Municipalities to complete the league games played from last year June to September 2024. As the new financial year starts, it will mark the 5th season of the League and will undoubtedly continue to grow. The event was supported by the following sponsors: Idwala carbonate, Anthonys Welding, Albany, Tiagos and Sasol.
It is fantastic that the event combined sports with arts and other activities like poetry and Market Day, providing different platform for the girls to showcase their diverse talents.
Congratulations to Delihlazo Primary School who took the trophy by defeating Conston Primary School by 3-2 in penalties after a thrilling final match.
Mr Ntsebesha who is an educator/coach at Delihlazo Primary School said that “Through it all togetherness and unity within the school played a vital role in helping us as teachers to achieve this big win and we made it a priority to keep learners active in sports while focusing on their studies, because we understand that sport is a unique skill and career to others.”
